WHU Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management, Vallendar - Germany


The WHU, founded in 1984, is the first German school to offer courses in business administration focusing on corporate management and it is highly regarded as one of the top business schools in Europe. The WHU is committed to offering students an education that will prepare them for managerial position around the world.

Location
The town of Koblenz is situated between the picturesque landscapes of the Rhine and Moselle rivers and surrounded by four low mountain ranges. The 2000-year-old town has a rich and cultured history. The monuments and historical buildings, hidden lanes and alleyways and the neighbourhood taverns provide visitors with a very relaxed and cozy atmosphere, which makes you feel right at home. The sites and view from high above the Rhine are breathtaking and unlike any other spot in the world. Koblenz was rated third of all German towns and cities and is truly a place worth visiting.

Academic Information
The WHU offers courses in International Economics, Marketing, Production Management, Entrepreneurship, International Management, Financial Accounting, Electronic Business and Technology and Innovation Management.

During the Fall semester, students choose courses in the 7th semester and in the Spring semester, students choose courses in the 6th and 8th semester.

Credit Equivalency
Full workload is 30 credits per semester (5–7 courses)
3 credit course = 2 hours/week

24 credits = 12 SSB credits
30 credits = 15 SSB credits

Class Format: lectures and seminars
Class Size: 10-90 students maximum
Examinations: participation, written, oral
Attendance & Participation: mandatory

Language
Courses are taught in both English and German (75% in English). German language courses can be taken for free. Little or no knowledge of German will not pose too difficult a problem for studying or travelling as long as you are patient and can communicate effectively.

Computer Facilities
Computer hardware at the WHU is kept up-to-date with the ever increasing learning and research programs available. The WHU has a large number of computers of different manufacturers (IBM, Siemens, Dell, NeT). These computers are available to every student 24 hours a day and on weekends.

Type/Availability of Accommodation
Residences for exchange students are rented in Vallendar. Assistance for finding an apartment/room is provided, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure that you have a place to stay.

Health Insurance
Health Insurance is compulsory for all exchange students. Proof of insurance will be required once you arrive in Germany. If you arrive without insurance, you can obtain it at the university but you will not receive a student card until you do so.

Visa
A Student Visa is a necessary component of the exchange program. It is recommended that you apply for a Visa at the German Embassy as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance as it can take up to three months to finalize the paperwork. A tourist Visa is not required but also recommended. The consulate is located at:
