The MBA program at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) is widely recognized as one of the best MBA programs in Latin America, whose accredited Masters program is targeted to the successful career professional. As such, it is a two-year part-time program especially formulated to help the mid-career manager advance to executive levels by studying business theory and practical examples of the latest advances within business in small, discussion-oriented classes. Through this multidisciplinary program, students can advance without interruption of their careers.
Location
São Paulo, also known as Sãn Paulo, is the largest city in Brazil and South America, and the third largest city in the world. It also is a major South American industrial centre and one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Its museums are among the finest in South America; its surrounding coastline is graced with many lovely beaches, and its entertainment and nightlife have for years attracted some of the best performers in the world.
Approximate Term Dates
Winter Term (Term 1, Module 7): Early February to mid April and
(Term 2, Module 8): Late April to late June
Fall Term (Term 3, Module 5): Early August to early October and
(Term 4, Module 6): Mid October to mid December
Students are expected to be in Sãn Paulo one week before the start of class.
Academic Information
FGV offers courses in the following departments:

· Accounting and Finance (CFC)
· Social and Legal Foundations of Administration (FSJ)
· Quantitative Methods and Information Systems (IMQ)
· Marketing (MCD)
· Economics (PAE)
· Production and Management Sciences (POI)
Most faculty members allow students to use English for their tests and papers.
Grades are based on participation, oral and written presentations, case analyses and mid-term and final examinations.
Credit Equivalency
8 FGV credits = 12 SSB credits
10 FGV credits = 15 SSB credits
Size of Classes/Features
Class size varies between 30 and 50 students.
Language
Most classes are taught in Portuguese. There are very few courses offered in English.
The school does intend to increase the number of courses taught in English. Students that are fluent in Spanish should not have difficulties learning Portuguese. A Portugese Language Course is offered at the beginning of each term.
Computer Facilities
All students are provided with personal e-mail accounts. The computer labs are equipped with Microsoft Office, Netscape browsers and printers.
Type/Availability of Accommodation
Exchange students can choose to live in apartment flats near FGV. The apartment flats are fully furnished with cable TV and one bedroom. Housekeeping and 24-hour security services are provided. Other services available are laundry services, covered parking, room service, pool, sauna, bar, and a coffee shop. Stores such as pharmacies and barbershops are located nearby. The flats are located within five minutes of Paulista Avenue, a 10-minute walk to the school. The application for the apartment flats is mailed to students with the registration information. Students are kindly asked to fax their application 30 days before arrival in São Paulo.
Living with Brazilians is another alternative that provides an excellent opportunity to improve your language skills and receive a real cultural experience. For those who wish to live with Brazilian students, many options are available ranging from students living by themselves or with a host family. The International Exchange Office can help students find suitable accommodations. Renting your own apartment in São Paulo is feasible, but presents some difficulties related to documentation and deposits to be paid.
Health Insurance
Medical Assistance is provided free of charge to all exchange students during the academic term. There is also a clinic and doctor at FGV. Students should arrange for health insurance prior to arrival.
