Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración, Caracas - Venezuela


The Institute for Advanced Studies in Administration (IESA) is a private, non-denominational, non-profit academic institution founded in1965 with the financial support of North American and Venezuelan foundations and corporations in consultation with an academic committee of six U.S. business school deans (MIT, Northwestern, Chicago, Harvard, Syracuse and Cornell). It is the top-ranked business school in Venezuela and is counted among the best in Latin America. IESA is officially accredited by Venezuela's National Council of Universities to grant postgraduate degrees. Graduates of the Master's program have enrolled in Ph.D. programs at leading schools worldwide.

Location
IESA is located between downtown Caracas and the spectacular National Park "El Avila", which is a beautiful mountain where people go to exercise and enjoy the view of the city. There is a strong cultural core to the city: museums, galleries and events are well attended and of a high standard. In fact, Caracas is said to be one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Latin America.

Academic Information
In addition to core courses the MBA offers more than 46 electives, including courses in Finance, Marketing, Production, Public Management and Economics. Most classes are evaluated through individual participation, case preparation, final-term examination or final work presentation.

15 IESA credits = 15 SSB credits

Size of Classes/Features
Total enrollment in the MBA program is 140 students. The class size is typically 30 students. The average age is 26.

Language
All courses are taught in Spanish, with occasional courses taught in English. Papers and exams may be written in English in most courses. Students must have a good knowledge of the Spanish language.

Computer Facilities
IESA has two computer's rooms with IBM Pentium & acute computer. All computers have installed the last version of Window NT, and have access to Internet, e-mail services, and multimedia devices. The rooms are opened Monday to Friday between 8am-9pm and on weekends until 6pm.

Type/Availability of Accommodation
Although IESA does not offer on-campus accommodations, assistance can be provided with information on rentals and housing in general. Final responsibility for all housing arrangements rests with the student. Most students opt for short term studio-type apartments or host family arrangements.

Library
IESA´s library features one of the largest up-to-date collections in management and related fields (40,000 volumes, with 400 active journal subscriptions). The library also offers access to Internet databases. A project to automate all library functions is under way.
