EDHEC Business School, France

EDHEC Business School is one of Europe's oldest and most recognized schools of management, ranked among the elite of the French Grandes Ecoles. EDHEC’s pedagogical mission is to offer students an environment in which they can develop their management skills and perfect mastery of reasoning skills in the world of business at an international level. The means provided to achieve this goal are both numerous and varied: lectures and interactive class lessons, group-work, self-study tools, conferences, case studies, project management, company games, organizing events and involvement in associations.

If selected to attend EDHEC, students may choose to study at either the Lille or Nice campus.

Location
EDHEC is one of the largest institutions for business studies in France. With its small, private campuses located within the heart of the cities, Lille and Nice, EDHEC offers a cosmopolitan flair in a local setting.

Lille Campus
Having more than 100,000 students, Lille is one of the largest student-populated cities in France. Thanks to its industrial and service sectors, it is the economic capital of Northern France. With a population of approximately 1 million inhabitants and 6 European Capitals within a 250 kilomtre radius, Lille, due to its strategic position at the crossroads of Northern Europe, is rapidly gaining status as a world trade and communications centre. The 'fixed link' between Great Britain and Continental Europe with high speed trains to Belgium and West Germany enhances Lille's location. As the traditional capital of Flanders, Lille is in a region rich in history and culture, offering numerous leisure pursuits. Cinemas, theatres, an opera house and a philharmonic concert hall are all within walking distance of the University. For those interested in exploring further afield, the sandy beaches of Côte d'Opale are a mere one hour from Lille.

Nice Campus
Nice is located on the French Riviera and borders Italy and Monaco, while being at mid-point between Barcelona and Milan. The city of Nice stands out as a centre for high technology, services and tourism.

Approximate Term Dates
Winter (Terms 2 & 3): January to June

Academic Information
Exchange students will be enrolled into the Grande Ecole Programme. This is approximately equivalent to Schulich’s 3rd and 4th years, respectively. In 2003, EDHEC–Nice launched its first English track program, specifically designed for international exchange students. There is not much flexibility between tracks but students enrolled int the Bachelor program can request to take a few Masters courses if it does not conflict with their schedule. Currently, there are approximately between 12 and 18 courses per term and program that exchange students can choose from.

Credit Equivalency
36 ECTS = 15 SSB credits
3 ECTS = 15 hours of instruction

Language
French and English

Although many French can speak English due to increased tourism and international trade, it should not be assumed that one could successfully integrate into French society speaking only English. Investing in a French phrasebook and enrolling in at least an elementary French language course are advisable in order to meet with success while studying in France.

Type/Availability of Accommodation
Both campuses offer residences to incoming exchange students. On-campus housing is not guaranteed but off-campus housing assistance is provided.

Facilities
EDHEC boasts state-of-the-art technology in the classrooms, libraries and computer laboratories. Lille, being EDHEC’s main campus, is larger and has more facilities than Nice. EDHEC offers students sophisticated technology for enhancing learning: multi-media, video-conferencing and language laboratories, libraries, cafeterias and study areas.

Medical Assistance
Students participating in the exchange program must arrive with their own insurance and provide the International Office with a photocopy of their insurance contract.
