Korea University Business School, KUBS – South Korea


Founded as early as 1905, Korea University has risen to one of the top three universities in South Korea. With over 80 departments in 18 colleges and an equal number of graduate schools, Korea University is one of the largest comprehensive universities in Korea. It is especially renowned for its professional schools of Law, Medicine and Business Administration.

Location
Bisected by the Han River and surrounded by mountains, Seoul is as stunning as it is exciting, with its rich nightlife and expansive shopping districts.

Korea University is located in Anam-Dong, close to famous Dong Dae Moon or the East Gate in Seoul. Dating back to the beginning of the Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910), Seoul has been the political, commercial, education and cultural capital for over 600 years.

Fall (Fall Semester): September to Mid-December
Winter (Spring Semester): March to Mid-June

Academic Information
A week before the start of semester, exchange students receive the course schedule. Submission of the course selection is done immediately prior to the commencement of classes. Within the first two weeks of classes, students can make changes to this selection.

The preferred teaching methods are lectures, seminars, class discussions and presentations.

Credit Equivalency
15 KUBS credits = 15 SSB credits
*Each course at KUBS is normally 3 credits.

Language
Korean and English

There is an extensive list of courses offered in English. The Korean Language and Cultural Centre (KLCC) through the Institute of Foreign Language Studies offers Korean language lessons in the 4 language skills. With its state of the art multimedia facility, students can be exposed to colloquial Korean while perfecting their grammar.

Although many Koreans are eager to practice their English, it should not be assumed that one could successfully integrate speaking only English. Investing in a Korean phrasebook or Korean language courses is advisable.

Computer Facilities
Every college or department has a computer facility with Internet access. If desired, KUBS will provide students with an internal email account.

The College of Business Administration has two computer labs, both with high-speed Internet capabilities. The Korea University Library System ensures that materials are electronically catalogued while offering many advanced on-line services.

Type/Availability of Accommodation
On-campus housing is not guaranteed for exchange students, though they do receive preference. The on-campus international dormitory, set amongst trees and wide lawns, is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping areas. Students can choose between double or triple occupancy air-conditioned dorms. The meal plan, consisting of breakfast and dinner, is optional. Off-campus housing assistance is available.

Health Insurance
Health Insurance is mandatory for all exchange students. This should be purchased before participating on the exchange term.

Student Life
Korea University offers students over 100 student clubs or "circles". The Korean Language and Cultural Center offers lessons or demonstrations in Taekwondo, Korean Calligraphy, Pansori (traditional Korean singing), Samulnori (traditional Korean percussive ensemble).

KUBS also provides incoming exchange students with a "buddy" through the Buddy Program.
